- On 21 December 2008, the Prime Minister The Hon Kevin Rudd MP and Minister for Housing, Tanya Plibersek MP, released the Australian Government's White Paper on Homelessness: The Road Home which sets the strategic agenda for reducing homelessness to 2020.

In 2007-2008...
Coast Shelter provided 33,825 overnight beds to 409 people
Coast Shelter could only meet 25% of the demand for emergency accommodation
Coast Shelter had to turn away 854 people because we had no vacancies, this represents 53% of all requests for accommodation
Coast Shelter had to turn away 348 people because of other reasons such as mental illness, this represents 22% of all requests for accommodation
The average length of stay in our Service was 83 days
The Donnison Street Restaurant provided 57,490 free meals to those in need
